ArtsFest Stuart: Celebrating the Arts in Our Hometown Since 1988!

Join us for a vibrant two-day outdoor arts festival at Memorial Park and along East Ocean Blvd. in historic Downtown Stuart. This celebration showcases the best in music, visual arts, literary works, culinary creations, dance, children’s activities, and more!

We offer a variety of opportunities, each clearly described below and in the registration system, so you can find the role that best suits you. To get started, simply click the sign-up button, and follow the online instructions. Once registered, you’ll receive a confirmation email with all the details, including your assigned day, time, and location. We’re grateful to have you as part of this amazing event!

Volunteer Orientation | Wednesday, January 29, 5:30PM

Location: Court House Cultural Center, 80 SE Ocean Blvd, Stuart.

All volunteers are required to attend the volunteer orientation, where you’ll meet your team captain and learn more about your specific duties and assignments. This is also a great opportunity to connect with the ArtsFest staff and committee members while getting an insider’s view of the weekend’s activities. Plus, you’ll receive your volunteer t-shirt!

Festival Weekend Information for Volunteers

The Volunteer Support Tent will be conveniently located near the permanent restrooms in Memorial Park. Please note that parking around the festival site is available on a first-come, first-served basis. A parking map will be provided during orientation. For safety reasons, we kindly ask you to leave pets and valuables at home, as there will be no secure storage available.

Your participation is vital to the success of ArtsFest. We rely on your commitment, so please ensure you arrive promptly for your scheduled shifts. If your availability changes or an emergency arises, contact us immediately to keep everything running smoothly.

Volunteer Priorities

Volunteering is all about having FUN! Smiles are contagious, so share yours freely. Safety always comes first—please refrain from consuming alcoholic beverages while volunteering. Patience is key, and we ask that you treat everyone—visitors and fellow volunteers—with courtesy and respect.

If any issues arise, please reach out to an ArtsFest Steering Committee Member. They are there to assist you and can be easily identified by their name badges. Throughout the festival, Steering Committee Members will be checking in at volunteer locations to ensure everything is running smoothly. Don’t hesitate to share any concerns or feedback with them. We’re here to make your volunteer experience both enjoyable and safe—let us know how we can help!

What to Wear

  • Wear your FREE volunteer t-shirt.
  • Dress comfortably for an outdoor event and be mindful of the weather.
  • Bring rain gear if rain is expected—we’ll still need your help!
  • Apply sunscreen and stay sun-safe.
  • Wear comfortable shoes, as the festival site is active and you’ll likely be on your feet.

  • Artist & Vendor Load In

    GENERAL DESCRIPTION

    Assist artists and vendors during the festival set up by checking in as they arrive, distributing Artist Welcome Packets, and locating/directing them to their assigned area.  There will be 2 people at the gate, 4 people stationed along the road, 1 floater, and 1 person at the exit.

    DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Greet artists as they arrive in their vehicles.
    • Check them in on the master list.  
    • Give artists their welcome packets and follow up with any special notes on individual packets.  Note:  there may be notes on the packet indicating that proof of insurance is needed, additional paperwork is needed, etc.  
    • Volunteers will be given a marker and post-it notes.  Write the artist’s booth number on the post-it note and put it on the windshield so it is visible to you.
    • Direct vehicles to assigned spots (either from entrance gate or from your assigned spot along the set up zone).
    • Ensure vehicles are packed as close to the sides as possible in order to keep the center of the road clear for existing vehicles.

    LOGISTICS (DAY OF)

    • Arrive at the east gate ½ hour before official load in time to get layout, parking maps, stations, and protocols.
    • Traffic moves through the middle lane of the event.
    • Remind artists to park and offload in the lane directly next to their booth.  Then move the vehicle from the event site, and return on foot to set up the booth.
    • If you are assigned the set up zone, direct artists to their booths and make sure they comply with parking and unloading instructions.
    • As artists are shown to their booth space, collect the booth number signage and return to the artist check in.

    General

    • Ability to assess logistics of traffic flow (of artists arriving) and determine best course of action.
  • Artist & Vendor Load Out

    GENERAL DESCRIPTION

    Determine if artists and vendors are packed and ready to load prior to driving into site.  Provide general support to artists and vendors as they break down.  Assist with general traffic logistics as artists load their vehicles to leave. 

    DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Monitor your assigned section for the following:
      • Assist during breakdown of event after visitors have cleared the site.  All artists and vendors must have an area packed and ready to load prior to driving into the site.
      • Distribute passes to artists once they are ready to bring their vehicles onsite. 
      • Help coordinate entry and exit of vehicles to prevent traffic jams.
    • Ensure entrance and exit are always open for vehicular traffic.
    • Monitor entrance and exit for unauthorized pedestrians.  
    • Ensure the center lane remains open for vehicular traffic to enter and exist (one-way flow).

    • Ability to be on your feet and walking for at least 4 hours.

    General

    • Ability to assess logistics of traffic flow (of artists entering and leaving) and determine best course of action.

       

  • Artist Hospitality

    GENERAL DESCRIPTION

    You will be responsible for providing water, snacks, and booth sitting for your assigned areas.  You will walk through your assigned areas, interact with the artists and welcome them to ArtsFest.

    DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Go booth by booth to let the artists know you are there should they need a break or need water.
    • Continually walk the section assigned to you at check in to provide support to the artists. 
    • Routinely distribute snacks and water to artists based on times provided to you by one of the volunteer co-coordinators.
    • Routinely walk booth to booth to see if artists need anything.  
    • As needed, act as a booth sitter should artists need a break of any kind.  

    REQUIREMENTS

    Physical

    • Ability to be on your feet and walking for at least 4 hours.
    • Ability to pull a small cart of water and snacks.

    General

    • Enjoy interacting with others.
  • ArtsFest Ambassador

    GENERAL DESCRIPTION

    ArtsFest Ambassadors are needed to walk around various events and locations throughout downtown Stuart either during ArtsFest weekend or at various event prior to ArtsFest -- i.e.  Market on Main (green market), Creak Walk, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration & Parade, to promote ArtsFest to visitors and community members.

    DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Mix, mingle, and engage with people in the assigned area and/or event  attendees, passing out flyers or other promotional materials related to ArtsFest and MartinArts.
    • Encourage people to attend  ArtsFest.

    REQUIREMENTS

    Physical

    • Ability to be on your feet and walking for at least 3 hours.

    General

    • Willingness to engage with strangers.
    • Be enthusiastic about the festival.  
  • ArtSpeaks Poetry Slam

    Volunteer Job Description: ArtSpeaks Poetry Slam


    GENERAL DESCRIPTION

    Art Speaks Poetry Slam is an engaging event that celebrates the power of spoken word and poetry. As a volunteer, you will play a vital role in supporting the event’s success, helping to create a welcoming and inspiring atmosphere for poets and audience members alike. This position is perfect for individuals who are passionate about the arts and community engagement.


    DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Manage the registration table, welcome participants and attendees.
    • Distribute programs, name tags, and other materials.
    • Encourage audience participation and interaction.
    • Assist event coordinators with additional tasks or needs during the event.
    • Ensure a positive and respectful environment for participants and attendees.


    REQUIREMENTS

    Physical

    • Ability to be on your feet and walking for at least 4 ½ hours.
    • Passion for poetry, spoken word, and the arts.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work as part of a team and follow directions.
    • Availability on the event date and willingness to assist with setup and breakdown.
  • Booth Setup Checker

    GENERAL DESCRIPTION

    On Saturday morning, before ArtsFest opens to the public, ensure that each artist’s booth has its booth number and name prominently displayed (needed for judging and quick identification).  


    DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Distribute labeled envelopes with booth signs and other festival information to artists.
    • Walk around to each artist booth to make sure artist has affixed in the proper spot his/her booth # sign to the tent.
    • Ensure the booth is ready for opening at 10:00am.  If not, report to the Artist Relations team.


    REQUIREMENTS

    Physical

    • Ability to be on your feet and walking for at least 2 hours.
  • CHOPPED Arena

    GENERAL DESCRIPTION

    Provides general setup and breakdown for  the Chopped Cooking Event as well as provides support and assistance to the chefs and judges of the Chopped Event.  Monitor and oversee audience seating.


    DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Set up tables the afternoon before the event (Friday only).
    • Unload supplies for the event the afternoon before the event (Friday only).
    • Assist with general setup for the event (e.g., garbage cans, back table setup)
    • Hang name signage on tables.
    • Put tablecloths on tables.
    • Ensure judges and chefs are kept supplied with water.
    • Set up judges’ tables with tablecloths and names.
    • Clear plates from judges’ tables.
    • General breakdown and cleanup after the event.
    • Direct people to empty seats and assist with any special seating needs. 


    REQUIREMENTS

    Physical

    • Ability to be on your feet and walking for at least 4 ½ hours.
    • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.  
    • While volunteers are needed for the full shift on Saturday, there will be lunch break in between each competition. 
  • Court House Cultural Center Greeter

    GENERAL DESCRIPTION

    Greet visitors at the Court House Cultural Center Gallery, monitor guest activity in the galleries, help them learn more about MartinArts and the arts community, and create a friendly and inviting atmosphere. 


    DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Greet visitors as they enter the gallery.
    • Provide information (verbal and printed) to guests about MartinArts, about ArtsFest, and about the current exhibit.
    • Invite guests to take MartinArts Magazines or other literature.
    • During downtime, volunteers may be asked to assist with basic administrative tasks. 


    REQUIREMENTS

    General

    • Enjoy interacting with others.
    • Become familiar with the art and artists that are in the gallery to converse intelligently with guests about the works.

     

     

  • Entertainment & Stage Support

    GENERAL DESCRIPTION  

    Provide support as needed to staff at the Main Stage and Banyan Stage areas.


    DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Monitor the stage areas for potential issues. 
    • Direct attendees and answer questions as needed.
    • Monitor reserved parking area
    • Exercise sound judgment and common sense should any potential issues arise and notify the appropriate staff person.  

     

    REQUIREMENTS

    Physical

    • Ability to be on your feet and standing for at least 4 ½  hours.
  • Gates - Greeter/Worker

    GENERAL DESCRIPTION

    Greet people as they arrive at ArtsFest, sell tickets via cash or credit card, and collect prepaid tickets.


    DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Direct guests to the entrance or exit to keep it flowing.  There is a separate entrance and separate exit at each gate.
    • Direct guests to the appropriate cash, credit, or presale line.  
    • Answer general questions about ArtsFest.
    • Hand out event information, if needed. 
    • Collect prepaid tickets from guests.  
    • If assigned, collect admission fees via cash or credit card from the attendees.
    • If assigned to collect cash, ensure the cash box remains secure and well organized, monitor the amount of cash sales and request a pick up should cash exceed $300 at any given time. 
    • If assigned as the count keeper, use the hand-held counter to count the number of guests that arrive.
    • Ensure no attendee leaves or enters with an alcoholic beverage. 
    • Ensure dogs are on a leash when they enter.


    REQUIREMENTS

    • Ability to be on your feet and walking for at least 4 hours.

    General

    • Ability to perform math calculations quickly, helpful.
    • Ability to assess potentially negative situations and know when to escalate to the gate captain.
  • Gates - Vendor & Entertainer Gate Worker

    GENERAL DESCRIPTION

    Monitor entry and exit through Vendor and Entertainer gate ensuring only credentialed vendors, entertainers and performers enter.  


    DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Check credentials to ensure only appropriate vendors, entertainers and performers enter through the gate.
    • Direct general public to the East or West Gates for entry and exit from ArtsFest.  
    • Answer general questions about ArtsFest.  
    • Ensure no entry from this gate by the general public.  EXIT ONLY


    REQUIREMENTS

    Physical

    • Ability to be on your feet and walking for at least 4 hours.

    General

    • Ability to assess potentially negative situations and know when to escalate to the appropriate ArtsFest Committee Member.
  • Gates - Vendor & Artist Morning Set Up

    GENERAL DESCRIPTION

    Monitor the entry of credentialed artists, community partners, vendors, and ArtsFest volunteers Saturday and Sunday morning prior to the festival opening.


    DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Monitor both gates and Detroit Avenue to allow credentialed people to enter the site.  This includes artists, community partners, vendors, and ArtsFest volunteers.
    • Ensure that there is no early admittance of the general public.

  • Rover Support

    GENERAL DESCRIPTION

    As a rover, you will interact with vendors, artists, and attendees, promoting the various daily events and directing people through the venue, as needed.  You will also walk around the site to see what’s going on.  It is your responsibility to contact the appropriate committee member if you observe anything that needs attention.


    DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Promote the various daily events as you walk around.
    • Direct people through the venue, as needed.  
    • Continually walk the site, observe, and report appropriate observations to a committee member.
    • Interact with the vendors, artists, and attendees.
    • You may be called up to fill other volunteer spots.


    REQUIREMENTS

    Physical

    • Ability to be on your feet and walking for at least 4 hours.

    General

    • Ability to assess situations and determine if escalation to a committee member is needed.
  • Site Operations - Friday / Festival Set Up

    GENERAL DESCRIPTION

    On the Friday afternoon before ArtsFest opens, volunteers are needed in the afternoon and early evening to perform various set up tasks such as hanging banners, placing  barricades and traffic cones, setting up chairs, tables, display racks, etc.  


    DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Distribute and set up chairs and tables in designated areas.
    • Hang sponsor and event banners, as directed.
    • Set out trash cans, recycle bins, and signage in designated areas.  Ensure a trash can is next to each port-a-potty.
    • Assist with the process of road closures to include placing barricades and traffic cones.
    • Assist with setting up special events areas, if applicable.
    • Assist with setting up display racks in the local artist tent.  
    • If assigned, act as point person with Event Makers and vendors for deliveries and set up.


    REQUIREMENTS

    Physical

    • Ability to be on your feet and walking for at least 2.5 hours (per shift).
    • Ability to lift at least 30 pounds.  

    General

    • Ability to assess onsite logistics and determine best course of action.
  • Site Operations - Saturday

    GENERAL DESCRIPTION

    Assists with various aspects of ArtsFest operational setup, daily maintenance, and distribution of equipment and supplies throughout the weekend, including deployment of event signage, parking cones, supplies, and equipment.  


    DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

    • As needed, distribute ice, water, and snacks to volunteer tent and other points.
    • Assist with infrastructure set up (deploy event signage, electricity, safety cones, etc.).
    • Double check that trash cans and recycle bins are in place and that a trash can is next to each port-a-potty.
    • Monitor trash cans and recycle bins throughout the day for collection; change out trash bags as needed.
    • Monitor port-a-potties for toilet paper, paper towels, and overall sanitary conditions.
    • May be assigned to keep the back gate secure and allow selective access to credentialed participants.  


    Morning Shift:  8am -10am

    • Double check trash and recycle bins are in place.
    • Deploy event signage.
    • Deploy supplies to various stations (coolers, water, snacks, etc.).
    • Double check that port-a-potties are unlocked and stocked with toilet paper and paper towels.


    Afternoon Shift: 1:00pm – 6:00pm

    • Monitor throughout the day trash cans and recycle bins for replacement bags/debris removal.   
    • Monitor throughout the day the condition of the porta potties; refill toilet tissue and paper towels as needed. 
    • As directed, assist with the deployment of various supplies.
    • At 5:00, change out trash bags; replace with new bags.  Double check the condition of the porta potties.


    REQUIREMENTS

    Physical

    • Ability to be on your feet and walking for 2 - 5 hours, depending on shift.
    • Ability to lift at least 30 pounds.
    • This is a physically demanding position.

    General

    • Ability to troubleshoot and solve logistical site problems that may arise during the festival.
    • Experience with basic construction and electrical engineering is a plus.


    WHAT TO WEAR

    • Dress in clothes and shoes that you don’t mind getting dirty.
    • Comfortable shoes are a must as you will be on your feet for most of your shift.
    • Bring work gloves.

     

  • Site Operations - Sunday

    GENERAL DESCRIPTION

    Assists with various aspects of ArtsFest operational setup, daily maintenance, and distribution of equipment and supplies throughout the weekend, including deployment of event signage, parking cones, supplies, and equipment, and monitoring of various site-specific items.  


    DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Attend volunteer orientation to get acquainted with your job duties, meet the ArtsFest staff and committee, pick up your volunteer t-shirt, and get the inside scoop on what is going on for the weekend.
    • FUN is why we volunteer!  Smiling is contagious. 
    • As needed, distribute ice, water, and snacks to volunteer tent and other points.
    • Assist with infrastructure set up (deploy event signage, electricity, safety cones, etc.).
    • Double check that trash cans and recycle bins are in place.
    • Monitor trash cans and recycle bins throughout the day for collection; change out trash bags as needed.
    • Monitor port-a-potties for toilet paper, paper towels, and overall sanitary conditions.
    • May be assigned to keep the back gate secure and allow selective access to credentialed participants.  


    Morning Shift:  8am -10am

    • Double check trash and recycle bins are in place.
    • Deploy event signage.
    • Deploy supplies to various stations (coolers, water, snacks, etc.).
    • Double check that port-a-potties are unlocked and stocked with toilet paper and paper towels.


    Afternoon Shift: 1:00pm – 5:00pm

    • Monitor throughout the day trash cans and recycle bins for replacement bags/debris removal.   
    • Monitor throughout the day the condition of the porta potties; refill toilet tissue and paper towels as needed. 
    • As directed, assist with the deployment of various supplies.


    Evening: 5:00pm – 7:00pm 

    • Drag trash cans and recycle bins to the dumpsters.  Note:  leave 2 trash cans on the street in the artist area for artist cleanup (one closer to Denver and one closer to courthouse crosswalk).
    • Break down tables and chairs (rental equipment) and neatly stack in the common pick-up area.
    • Collect and move event signage back to the common area.  
    • Remove banners from fences and return to the common area.
    • Walk the entire event site and pick up any loose debris that is left from breakdown.  


    REQUIREMENTS

    Physical

    • Ability to be on your feet and walking for at least 2 – 4 hours, depending on shift.
    • Ability to lift at least 30 pounds.
    • This is a physically demanding position.

    General
