Arts Leadership | Ron Rose
Growing up in Athens, Ohio, and throughout his college career at West Virgina University, the arts played a significant role in the personal growth of Ron Rose. It was during his first job promoting and developing tourism for the State of West Virginia that he discovered art was not just a form of expression, it was a key player in generating jobs, boosting tourism, and was a significant contributor to economic growth. Ron had the privilege to work for Pulitzer Prize winning photographer Eddie Adams in New York City. That life changing experience not only introduced him to the visual arts but placed Ron in the center of the New York City art scene.
When he moved to Martin County and was hired as the Jensen Beach Chamber of Commerce CEO, Ron immediately focused on establishing Jensen Beach and Hutchinson Island as the tourist destinations for both Martin and St. Lucie Counties and making sure the arts played a vital role in enhancing the visitor experience.
His position with the chamber has given Ron the opportunity to support local art organizations and produce community building events that bring people together and foster relationships.
Ron founded the Jensen Beach Pineapple Festival, which included an art and craft show as well as an opportunity for local musicians to perform. He reestablished the annual Jensen Beach Fine Art & Craft Show originally started by art enthusiast Dr. Richard Penick in the sixties.
Through the Jensen Beach Chamber supported The Entrepreneurship Foundation, Inc., he helped organize an annual fundraiser, Art, Music, and Benefit Auction, which has raised $50,000 to benefit the art and music programs in Jensen Beach area public schools.
Another popular community event he helps produce is the Taste of Jensen, a holiday tradition that highlights the culinary arts by featuring bite-sized samples of signature entrees and specialties prepared by talented chefs representing the participating local restaurants.
Ron is particularly proud of his work in establishing historic downtown Jensen Beach as a tourist destination. He never stops promoting Jensen Beach, downtown restaurants, the Jensen Beach Art Cottages, and the History Museum of Jensen Beach. He also coordinates the weekly Jammin’ Jensen downtown event which provides up and coming artists and artisans an opportunity to display their work.
Ron is known for his sense of humor. He wanted to come up with a unique chamber program that would inspire smiles, laughter, and lift people up. Earlier this year the chamber launched its first Pineapple Laughs “Intro to Improv” course where students learn the principles and techniques of improv. The classes are ongoing, and not only teach the art of comedy, but fosters creativity, confidence, and well-being. At the conclusion of each course the class presents an improv showcase.
