Adrienne Davis

I have been painting seriously for over 15 years, but before I had the time to devote to it, I was a lawyer, adult literacy specialist and mother. During those years, I never left art behind because I had always been an art lover and was very involved with studio art when I was much younger. When I finally had more time, I began to take college studio courses, which were available to me at my local community college. I had the good fortune to work with several instructors from whom I learned so much. I began with watercolor and oil and then moved to acrylics, although watercolor remains an important medium for me. My favorite subjects are still life, landscapes and abstracts. I now live in Florida, which has the most beautiful light and landscapes, which I have incorporated into several paintings that I call “abstracted botanicals.” These are paintings of palms in which the palm form is very familiar, but the colors are not ones found in nature. These paintings and all my others reflect my keen interest in color and the way in which color can communicate and shape our emotional responses to art and life. I also love experimenting with different types of paint and approaches to painting. This helps to keep my work exciting, interesting and fresh. My work has been juried into shows in Maryland, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Florida.
