Dr. Helga Jensen-Ruopp
I was born in a displaced persons camp in Cheb, Egerland, Czech Republic after my parents were forced to flee from their home in what is now Slovakia. Eventually resettled into war-torn Germany where my childhood memories are of cold and hunger.
We emigrated to the USA when I was 8 years old. I always enjoyed drawing, my father, seeing my potential bough me my first real supplies: oil paints, watercolors, pencils, paper and canvases. His friend made my easel, that is my go-to easel.
I work mainly in acrylics, or oils on canvas, wood, boards and the subject matter is the natural world: nature, animals, the environments. I block in the areas then using layers I fine tune the subject until its done.
