You're invited to get your hands dirty with an introduction to relief printmaking. Relief printmaking is a form of printmaking in which the image to be printed is raised from the surface of a linoleum block. Pieces of linoleum are removed from the surface using sharp tools called gouges. This creates a surface similar to a stamp and is referred to as "block printing". You'll learn a brief history of relief printmaking, and how to create, carve, and print your very own Linocut. The process consists of carving images onto linoleum blocks with carving tools, inking up these blocks, and pressing them onto paper. We will be printing mostly by hand. Various colors will be used for our prints too. There will be some designs to choose from, but you are encouraged to bring your own image to carve (6"x6"). You'll be able to keep and re-use your hand carved linoleum block for future projects, like cards, wall art, and much more. Supplies are included with your workshop fee, but you are welcome to bring additional design options for your block carving or materials to incorporate in your finished designs.
